“Fat is not an inert substance. It is a very active substance that puts out a lot of chemicals that damage our arteries. Fat damages our body tissues. It actually makes our bodies less sensitive to insulin so we’re more prone to being a diabetic.”
Dr. Stephen Kopecky, a Mayo Clinic cardiologist
I really needed to see this article today because any reminder to stay on top of my weight and thus health helps keep me on track. It seems like every month I get thrown off, but as long as I get right back on that horse I see both consistent weight loss and improvement in health. I’m real sensitive about diabetes stuff because my beloved maternal grandma died from complications due to diabetes, and it has plagued other family members as well including my brother John who died this past May (his cause of death is still undetermined, but one of his health issues was diabetes). I’ve teetered on the edge of becoming diabetic myself, and this time, like as before in 2012, I got into a pre-diabetic state once my weight ballooned over 200 pounds.
Then on top of diabetes, if you get fat you’re greatly increasing the potential for heart trouble. Extra fat makes your circulatory system work overtime.
